a letter to a friend regarding my thanksgiving
thanksgiving went fine... i'm thankful it's over.
my family got back into the old habit of saying a prayer before dinner. when i questioned the new practice, they simply averted their eyes to my two young nephews and assured me that they've ALWAYS said grace before meals as any good catholic would. after the boys left the table my mother told me that praying was something my older sister erin asked them to do shortly after the boys were born- she wants them to be practicing catholics... why... no one quite knows. i think she might be crazy. when asked to go around the table and state something that we were grateful for, i responded with "my cat joseph, birds and trees", my nephew jack with "that god killed all the dinosaurs", and keri's boyfriend terry with "that my family doesn't make us do this at home".
later that evening jack asked if he could sleep with me. i took that opportunity to read him a story about how a meteorite killed all the dinosaurs. he didn't believe it but thought it was a good story either way. my attempt in making him un-catholic has proven unsuccessful.
i should get back to work. glad to hear that things are well. by the way, did you find out about the peacock? what does it do in the winter? does it walk around in the snow? does your mother still feed it cheesies?

Dear peony pusher, now that is a good story. My family has also reverted back to "special dinner" prayer which is an awkward and horrible experience. I think they are trying to impress my "new" sister-in-law, but I don't think she even grew up chris ... opps … Christian. What can we do, but promise never to be like them. I swear!!
i didn't know bernice and murray were religious? i bet Evis (sp?) doesn't even pray at home and gets all sweaty palmed at the thought of praying at yours.
nobody likes to be forced into religious activity. when my mom started praying, i turned into a zombie. i reverted back to childhood- i immediately sat quietly with my hands folded with my head down, and i made sure not to move any which way in order to avoid catching someone else's eye where i would then giggle and be scorned for it. rather, i kept my head down to my lap and i prayed... words were coming out of my mouth without thoughts of their meaning. i prayed to the father, the son and the holy spirit despite still not fully understanding the trinity.
regarding our 'not being like them'... i'll try hard. maybe i'll get my family into another 'before dinner' practice- maybe some free style rapping.

with that said mrs. librarian, i'd like you to find out more about peacocks living in canada... what do they do in the winter? of course, i do realize you're quite busy so i'll wait patiently.
my friend's response to the peacock was such:
"I did look into those qusetions and discovered that my father and his neighbor are building some modest housing for the peacock. The cheesies will probably still be served right through to spring. They love that bird!"
i then asked about whether they'd be willing to create a blog so that i too could enjoy 'buddy' the bird's adventures. he responded with:
"As for a peacock blog...I doubt my parents want to share "buddy" with the world."
sigh.......
Hi again, Here is what I found ...
The India Blue Peacock is commonly kept and bred in captivity by people across America and around the world. They are not expensive and thousands of them are bought and sold each year (see classified ad section of the GAZETTE). They are hearty and easy to keep, even in cold districts. The Green species is not bred as often as the India Blue and is therefore more expensive. You can see that the tail of the green peacock is exceptionally beautiful! The Green is more susceptible to cold and needs to receive adequate protection from the cold. Peafowl can be quite sociable and often display their feathers right in front of you in the springtime. Many also live and breed in parks and gardens. The male peacock in the spring not only displays his gorgeous tail feathers, but also utters its famous call which is always a delight to hear!
